My Garden - Orchards, Hall Lane, Walton, Nr Lutterworth, Leics

My garden is in a village in the East Midlands. It is just over an acre in extent and has a panoramic view over the surrounding countryside. The soil is free draining. In the garden all the leaves are green – no gold or purple leaves, no variegation. And plants are selected to emphasise the passage of the seasons – spring bulbs and tree blossom, summer flowers, autumn fruit and leaf colour, the shapes of the bare branches of trees and shrubs in winter. Local sandstone cobbles (“duckies”) are used extensively in the garden to give it a distinctive regional character. The garden is open annually for The National Gardens Scheme. Details in “The Yellow Book”. I have written a more extended (though now rather outdated) account of my garden for the magazine Hortus. The text of this article is included in this website.
